Butternut
(Juglans cinerea)

Tree Description

Smallish tree with forked or crooked trunk.  Has wide spread branches.  

Leaf Description

• Leaf Arrangement is alternate
• Leaf Margin is serrated
• Leaf Venation is pinnate
• Leaf Division is pinnately compound
• Leaf has 11 to 17 leaflets arranged oppositely
• Leaf Shape is oblong and lancelot

Bark Description
       
The bark is lightly ash/gray.  As the bark matures, has flattened ridges forming diamond patterns.

Leaflet Description

                
Stout twigs that are green when young and become red/brown to gray as they mature.

Fruit Description 

An oblong fruit that is housed in a yellow/green husk.  The husk is sticky.
