(Cercis canadensis)

Tree Description

A small tree with a short, twisted trunk. It has spreading branches.     

Leaf Description

• Leaf Texture is pubescent on the underside
  
• Leaf Arrangement is alternate
• Leaf Margin is entire
• Leaf Venation is pinnate
• Leaf Division is simple
• Leaf Attachment is Petiolate
• Leaf is heart shaped or cordate.

Bark Description
       
The bark is smooth and the aged bark becomes scaly with ridges.

Twig and Bud Description

                
Twigs are slender and zigzag and rather black in color with light lenticels.

Fruit Description 

Flattened, dry, brown pea pods when mature.  This photo shows young fruits that are green.
