The Science Club helps students gain and use knowledge through cooperative hands-on situations and activities. They sponsor many activities, trips, and contests throughout the year. The Egg Drop, Bridge Building Contest, and the annual Trip to Camp Ondessonk are all sponsored by the Science Club.  The Science Club helps students explore career interests such as medicine or engineering.  This active and popular club has activities planned year-round!

  There are several very active subdivisions of the Science Club.
 

• Science Olympiad:  Students from all Belleville grade schools attend a night of learning about science.  The students learn about science while having fun at the same time.  Activities include Scholar Bowl and Pictionary.

• Special Events:  Plans and runs 4 extra credit events throughout the year.
   
• Recyclers: Collect paper, newspapers, magazines, and soda bottles.  They also hold a contest to recycle milk jugs in an effort to acquire outdoor benches for the school. For more information on the school's recycling program, click here.
   
• Zookeepers:  Meet in Mrs. Newton's room to care for the science department's animals. This group cleans cages, feeds and waters the animals and ensures that the animals get the proper exercise and treatment that they need.  The Zookeepers gain a great deal of knowledge from caring for the animals, which include a hedgehog, a rat, mice, a rabbit and a sugar glider.
   
• Wilderness Adventure Club (WAC):  Enjoys the outdoors by taking a trip once or twice a year to Camp Ondessonk.  They experience the wildlife by hiking, rock climbing and camping in the woods of southern Illinois.

  • Membership will be open to all students in grades 9 through 12.
  • $5 membership fee.
